Lace Up and Shoot for the Stars: County Basketball Awaits Ausable’s Young Hoop Dreams!
Hello, wonderful residents of the Town of Ausable!
As the crisp fall air gives way to winter’s chill here in Keeseville and beyond, we’re buzzing with excitement about one of our favorite community traditions: the Clinton County Basketball League. If you’re a parent, guardian, or family member to a spirited 3rd through 6th grader (that’s roughly ages 8-12), we’ve got an incredible opportunity knocking at your door. It’s time to dust off those sneakers, grab a basketball, and sign your young one up for a season of dribbles, dunks, and unforgettable memories!
The Keeseville Youth Commission, dedicated to fostering fun, safe, and enriching activities for our local kids, is thrilled to announce open registration for the county basketball program. This league brings together talented young athletes from across Clinton County, including right here in Ausable, for a mix of skill-building practices and competitive games that emphasize heart over high scores. Whether your child is a budding LeBron James or just loves the joy of running around with friends, this is the perfect court to call home.

Why Basketball? The Game-Changing Benefits of Youth Sports
In a world full of screens and schedules, getting kids out on the court isn’t just about the game—it’s about building a foundation for life. Our Youth Commission has seen firsthand how sports like basketball transform young lives. Let’s break it down:
- Teamwork and Social Skills: Basketball is the ultimate team sport. From setting up plays to cheering on a teammate after a missed shot, kids learn to communicate, trust others, and celebrate collective wins. These lessons stick—studies show that youth athletes develop stronger empathy, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills, setting them up for success in school groups, future jobs, and lifelong friendships.
- Physical Health and Fitness: Hoops keep bodies moving! Regular play boosts cardiovascular health, builds strength, and improves coordination. It’s a natural way to combat childhood obesity, enhance flexibility, and instill healthy habits like proper nutrition and rest. Imagine your child sprinting down the court, burning energy, and coming home with a glow that no video game can match.
- Mental Resilience and Confidence: Every game teaches perseverance—bouncing back from a turnover or pushing through fatigue. Basketball fosters discipline, goal-setting, and a growth mindset, helping kids manage stress and build self-esteem. Plus, the thrill of making that game-winning shot? It’s a confidence booster that echoes far beyond the final buzzer.
- Fun, Community, and Lasting Bonds: At its core, this is about joy. Laughing with teammates, high-fiving after practice, and creating stories to tell for years. In our tight-knit Ausable community, these programs knit families closer, spark neighborhood rivalries (all in good fun!), and remind us why we love calling this place home.

Participating in county basketball isn’t just exercise—it’s an investment in your child’s whole well-being. We’ve watched shy kids emerge as captains and energetic ones learn the value of patience. The ripple effects? Healthier families, stronger community ties, and kids who grow up knowing they can achieve anything with a little hustle and heart.
