1790 Main Street, Keeseville is the home of the AuSable Chesterfield Keeseville (ACK)Civic Center. Built during the depression (1936) this building served to centralize area schools under one roof, at the time a revolutionary idea in New York State. This solidly built structure served Keeseville area K-12 students until 1972 when AuSable Valley Central School opened.

The Village of Keeseville acquired the building and maintained Village Offices there along with other businesses. At some point the building was closed, with no heat resulting in roof drains freezing-breaking, with water pouring into the building, a recipe for disaster.

Due to the dissolution of the Village of Keeseville in 2014, the Town of AuSable acquired the building. Early on, the town chose not to burden the taxpayers with the cost of revitalizing the building into a community center by applying for and receiving grants to begin the process of turning this building into a valuable asset for all residents of the area (Town of AuSable and Town of Chesterfield).

Grant funding provided for an ADA compliant entrance, a new roof over the entire building, and most important new boilers providing consistent heat throughout the building. Soon ADA compliant restrooms room will be available (there are toilets available in the building and a temporary ADA compliant unit is currently available outside). Thanks to a generous donation from the Moore Foundation, the gymnasium and stage have new flooring, and heat. Several entities are utilizing the gym facility. The Youth Commission, consisting of youth from both towns, will be playing basketball this winter.

Recognizing the need for new windows, the town is pursuing a grant to fund the project. Discussions are underway to obtain funding for an elevator providing second-floor access.

The possibilities for community use in the ACK Civic Center are endless. Meeting rooms will be available, other gym activities, community volleyball, pickle ball, community presentations, and inside walking during the winter. Space is available for businesses.

Wheat Paste Radio (WAVG 100.5 FM) – Hyper-local, community-run low-power FM radio station Wheat Paste Radio is building a 100% community-funded and community-led hyper-local radio station at the ACK Civic Center in Keeseville. Granted an FCC construction permit in June 2024, the station will broadcast on 100.5 FM with a limited range (roughly Keeseville to Peru) to keep it truly local, while also offering a live internet stream accessible anywhere.
