Clintonville Road Reopens

Dear Town of Ausable Residents,

The Town of Ausable and the Clinton County Highway Department are pleased to announce that Clintonville Road, between Dry Bridge Road and Arnold Hill Road, has officially reopened to traffic following the successful completion of the culvert replacement project over the Little Ausable River! This critical infrastructure upgrade, which began in May 2025 and was completed on schedule, marks a significant step forward in ensuring safer, more resilient roads for our community.

Why the Culvert Replacement Matters

The old culvert on Clintonville Road was undersized and outdated, posing risks of flooding, erosion, and restricted aquatic connectivity. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Clinton County Highway Department, the Town of Ausable, and partners like the Ausable Freshwater Center, a new modern climate-resistant culvert was installed that is designed to:

• Reduce Flood Risk: The new, larger culvert better accommodates high water flows, protecting our roads and nearby properties from flood damage.
• Enhance Aquatic Habitats: By improving stream connectivity, the culvert supports the movement of fish and other aquatic life, preserving the health of the Little Ausable River.
• Minimize Maintenance Costs: Built to last up to 70 years, this new structure reduces long-term maintenance and repair expenses for our town.

This project aligns with our commitment to maintaining safe, sustainable infrastructure while protecting the natural beauty of the Ausable watershed, as outlined in our Town’s Comprehensive Plan.

What You Need to Know

• Road Access: Clintonville Road is now fully open to all traffic. Thank you for your patience during the closure, which began on April 30, 2025. We know detours can be inconvenient, and your cooperation made this project a success.
• Project Details: The culvert replacement was part of Clinton County’s 2025 road and bridge initiatives, funded through careful planning and competitive bidding. The project was completed on time, with work concluding in August 2025.
• Continued Commitment: In addition to Clinton County Highway personnel, our Highway Department, led by Superintendent Patrick Akey, will continue monitoring the new culvert and surrounding road conditions to ensure long-term performance.
