Smart Meters Are Coming to Ausable: Join NYSEG’s Open House to Learn More!

Dear Town of Ausable Residents,

Exciting changes are on the way for our community! New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG), an Avangrid company, is rolling out smart meters across the Plattsburgh area, including parts of Clinton, Essex, Franklin, and Hamilton counties. To help you understand what this means for your home or business, NYSEG is hosting an informational open house at the Town of Jay Community Center Gymnasium on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

• When: April 29, 2025, 4:30–6:30 p.m.
• What: An informal open house with NYSEG representatives and informational displays
• Who: Open to all residents, business owners, and municipal officials—no registration required!

This is a fantastic opportunity to drop by at your convenience, ask questions, and learn about the benefits of smart meters directly from NYSEG’s project team. There’s no formal presentation, so you can come and go as your schedule allows. Another open house is planned for July, so stay tuned for more details.

What Are Smart Meters?

Smart meters are the next generation of energy technology, and they’re already transforming how over one million customers across New York State manage their energy use. Here’s why they’re a game-changer:

• Accurate Billing: Smart meters provide detailed hourly usage data, eliminating the need for estimated bills or manual meter readings.
• Faster Outage Response: NYSEG can pinpoint and respond to power outages more quickly, getting your lights back on sooner.
• Energy Savings: With NYSEG’s Energy Manager tool, you can track your energy use down to the hour and get personalized tips to save energy and lower your bills.
• Convenience: No more onsite visits or reading your own meter each month—smart meters use secure, two-way wireless communication to do the work for you.

All residential customers and most business customers in NYSEG’s service area will receive a new electric smart meter and/or natural gas module. Installations in our area are expected to wrap up later this year, and NYSEG will notify you before work begins in your neighborhood.
