Celebrating America 250: A Week of Pride and Community

Dear Town of Ausable and Keeseville Residents,

What a remarkable week it has been! As we look back on the America 250 celebrations that filled our community last week, it’s clear that the spirit of independence, unity, and local pride burned brighter than ever. From the very first moments to the spectacular finale, every event succeeded beyond expectations and brought neighbors together in the best possible way.

The festivities opened on a powerful and meaningful note with a pre-recorded reading of the Declaration of Independence, delivered by 40 of our own residents. Hearing familiar voices share those historic words reminded us all of the courage and vision that founded our nation—and how that same spirit lives on right here in our towns.

Scouts and members of the Knights of Columbus stood proudly for the Flag Ceremony, setting a respectful and patriotic tone that carried through the entire week. Their presence honored both our heritage and the values we continue to uphold.

Throughout the days that followed, the community came alive with activity. Town-wide garage sales turned streets and driveways into lively hubs of conversation, bargains, and neighborly connection. The fantastic parade rolled through with energy and creativity, drawing cheers from the crowds. Food and vendors offered something for everyone, creating a festive atmosphere filled with the smells, tastes, and laughter of a true hometown celebration.

And then there were the fireworks. Simply amazing—rivaling shows put on by much larger communities. The night sky lit up in a brilliant display that left people of all ages in awe and created lasting memories for families across Ausable and Keeseville.

This entire week stood as a testament to community pride and involvement. People stepped up, showed up, and celebrated together, proving once again that our small towns can deliver something truly special when we unite around an important milestone.

None of this would have been possible without the dedicated work of the Keeseville 250 Committee. Special recognition goes to Bruce Bourgeois and Mary Hughes, whose tireless organizing, vision, and hard work made every detail of the festivities shine. Their leadership helped turn a national anniversary into a deeply local and unforgettable experience.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, attended, or simply cheered from the sidelines. America 250 was a success because of all of you. Let’s carry this spirit of community forward as we continue to write the next chapters of our shared history.
