Keeseville to soon have ice skating rink

KEESEVILLE | Be on the lookout; there might be a new ice skating rink popping up in town any day now.
At the time this article was written, town officials were in the midst of making an old winter tradition once again available to residents — ice skating on the end of Hill Street.
“When I was a little girl, my grandparents lived on Hill Street, and they would take me there to skate,” reminisced Nicole Bombard of the Town of Ausable Parks & Recreation Commission. “Back then, someone would build a fire and give us hot chocolate so that we could stay warm.”
But a few years ago, the town stopped flooding the two tennis courts because of cracks in their foundations. “Unfortunately, through years of use, there are now significant-sized cracks in the concrete, so any water that does go on there, if it floods, the water eventually all drains out. That and we’ve had some pretty mild winters these last few years,” Bombard said. “So, there is no point in trying to flood it when it wouldn’t freeze or last long anyway.”
Since resurfacing the tennis courts is not currently an option, the Keeseville Youth Commission opted to purchase a liner to cover the courts before flooding.
