Thank You to our Holiday Decorators

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As I drive through the streets of Keeseville the past few days, I can’t help but smile. The warm glow of holiday lights on utility poles, lit candles and more at our civic center, the cheerful garland and lights stretching across Main Street—it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and it feels like home. AND, the new lights in Chesterfield look absolutely wonderful! We still have more to go up, but we’re getting it done 🙂

None of this happens by magic. It happens because a dedicated group of men and women who spend most of their year keeping our roads safe and our pipes running finally caught a brief break from Mother Nature and turned their talents to something that lifts every single one of us.

To our Highway Department crew—Pat, Russell, Mike, Chad, Adam, and the entire team—thank you. You’ve been battling an early and aggressive winter since November: plowing, sanding, patching potholes that seem to appear overnight, keeping Pleasant Street, Main Street, and every back road passable when the snow comes fast and the temperatures plummet. You’ve been out at 4 a.m. more times than any of us would like to count. When most of us are still reaching for that second cup of coffee, you’re already making sure we can get to work, school, or the hospital safely.

And to our Water & Wastewater crew—Rusty and Scott—you’ve been just as busy keeping pumps running, lines thawed, and water flowing clear through some of the coldest nights we’ve seen in years. Your work is quiet, critical, and almost never seen—until something goes wrong, and then we remember how much we depend on you.

This year winter hit hard and early. Honestly, I wasn’t sure we were going to be able to put the decorations up at all. But the moment you got a day or two without a storm bearing down, you grabbed the bucket truck, untangled the lights, climbed ladders in freezing wind, and turned Keeseville into the magical place we’ve come to enjoy each and every year.

You didn’t have to do it. You could have gone home, put your feet up, and nobody would have blamed you one bit. Instead, you gave us something beautiful—something that reminds every child (and every adult who still remembers being one) that this community cares, that we’re in this together, and that there’s still light even in the shortest, coldest days of the year.

We can’t forget about our volunteers like Amy Brelia. Preparing the planters around town with greenery (and now lights too) just looks so nice and welcoming. And our own Knights of Columbus for donating the funds to spruce up those planters for all of us to enjoy. Thank you all.

So, on behalf of every resident who slows down just a little to take in the lights—thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

You keep our town running 365 days a year. This December, you’ve also helped make it shine.

P.S. It looks like we may be a “go” for flooding the rink this Monday – fingers crossed. Thank You Dave Winters for all your extra work with keeping the water flowing lately. I know it’s been tough, but you’re somehow getting it done and please know it’s greatly appreciated by all of us.
