Get Involved with the Town of Ausable Parks & Recreation Commission!

Dear Residents of Ausable,

We’re excited to announce the formation of the Town of Ausable Parks & Recreation Commission, a new initiative dedicated to enhancing our community’s parks, recreational spaces, and activities for everyone to enjoy! Our next meeting is scheduled for April 16th at 6:30 PM, at the Civic Center, and we’re eager to get things rolling—but we need your help to make this vision a reality.

The Commission is just getting off the ground, and we’re looking for passionate residents to join us in shaping the future of our town’s recreational offerings. Whether you’re a longtime resident or new to Ausable, your voice matters. We’ll be establishing key roles like Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer, and setting a schedule for monthly meetings. But beyond the logistics, we’re dreaming big—and that’s where you come in.

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the exciting projects and priorities we’re brainstorming:

• Reviving the Beach: Closed since Covid, Port Douglas Beach is a hidden gem waiting to be brought back to life. Imagine summer days by the water again—swimming, picnicking, and making memories with family and friends.
• Waterfront Park: Soon to be transferred to Ausable, this space could become a cornerstone of our community. What would you like to see here?
• The Commons Park: Tucked away on Ausable and Liberty Streets, this little-known park has untapped potential. Let’s turn it into a space we can all be proud of.
• Civic Center as a Hub: Working with the Youth Commission and Civic Center Committee we’re exploring how to make it a vibrant community center.
• Geocaching & Geotrail: A fun, family-friendly way to explore Ausable—think treasure hunts with a modern twist!
• Ice Skating Rink and Tennis Courts: Seasonal fun for winter and summer alike—perfect for all ages.
• Harkness Property/Park: A beautiful area with so much potential—how can we make the most of it?
• River Access: Trails, scenic vistas, and angling spots along the river could connect us more deeply with our natural surroundings.

These are just the beginning! We’re also tossing around ideas like fundraising to support these projects and brainstorming events to bring us all together. But we can’t do it alone—we need your ideas, energy, and enthusiasm to make these dreams come true.

Whether you want to take on a leadership role, share your thoughts on these projects, or simply lend a hand, there’s a place for you.
