Important Storm Update for Ausable Residents
Dear Ausable Residents,
NYSEG has issued an urgent preparedness notice for a significant Halloween storm expected to bring heavy rain (1.5–2.5 inches) and wind gusts up to 45 mph from Thursday through Saturday. Our area, including Clinton County, is in the Plattsburgh division—one of the hardest-hit zones.
NYSEG’s Response
- 200 additional crews pre-staged across the state, including in our region.
- Ready with bucket trucks, chippers, and heavy equipment to restore power quickly.
- Monitoring 24/7 and prioritizing public safety (downed wires first).
What You Should Do
Before the Storm:
- Download the NYSEG app (search “AVANGRID” in app stores) to report/check outages.
- Sign up for Outage Alerts at nyseg.com.
- Charge devices, stock water/food, fill gas tanks.
Safety Reminders:
- Stay 30+ feet from downed wires.
- If a wire hits your car: Stay inside unless on fire, then jump clear and shuffle away.
- Call 1.800.572.1131 for downed wires or outages.
During Outages:
- Keep fridge/freezer closed (food safe ~24 hrs).
- Check if neighbors are out—could be a fuse, not the grid.
