Stay Safe and Informed: Sign Up for Emergency Alerts Today!
Dear Town of Ausable Residents,
As we head into 2025, staying prepared for emergencies—whether it’s severe weather, road closures, or other unexpected events—is more important than ever. Living in the North Country, we know how quickly conditions can change, especially with our unpredictable winters and the occasional surprises Mother Nature throws our way. That’s why I want to encourage every one of you to take a simple, free step to keep yourself and your loved ones safe: sign up for NY-Alert at https://alert.ny.gov/.
What is NY-Alert?
NY-Alert is New York State’s emergency notification system. It’s designed to deliver critical updates straight to you—via text, email, or phone—whenever there’s an emergency that could affect our community. Think of it as your personal heads-up for things like storm warnings, flooding risks, power outages, or even public safety alerts. By signing up, you’ll get real-time information from trusted sources, including local and state officials, so you can act quickly and stay ahead of any situation.
Why Should You Sign Up?
Here in Ausable, we’re a tight-knit community, and we look out for each other. But even the best neighbors can’t always predict when a snowstorm will pummel the region or when the Ausable River might rise unexpectedly and close Route 9N. NY-Alert fills that gap by:
- Keeping you informed: Get alerts tailored to our area so you’re never caught off guard.
- Saving time: No need to dig through news or social media—updates come right to you.
- Giving you peace of mind: Whether you’re at home, work, or away, you’ll know what’s happening and how to respond.
Plus, it’s completely free and takes just a few minutes to set up.
How to Sign Up
Getting started is easy:
- Visit https://alert.ny.gov/.
- Click “Sign Up” and create an account with your email and a password.
- Choose how you want to receive alerts—text messages, emails, or phone calls (or all three!).
- Enter your address or select Clinton County and the Town of Ausable to get location-specific updates.
- Customize your preferences—opt in for weather alerts, traffic updates, or whatever matters most to you.
That’s it! You’re now part of a statewide network designed to keep New Yorkers safe.
A Small Step for Big Safety
We’ve all seen how fast emergencies can unfold—for many of us the Ice Storm of ’98 and Tropical Storm Irene are still fresh in our minds. Signing up for NY-Alert isn’t just about convenience; it’s about being proactive. It’s one less thing to worry about when the winds pick up or the skies turn gray.
So, take a moment today—maybe right after you finish reading this—to visit https://alert.ny.gov/ and sign up. Share this with your family, friends, and neighbors, too. Let’s make sure our whole community is ready for whatever comes next.
Stay safe, Ausable!
-Tim
